This series of embroidery works is based on photographs of my grandmother. They were made over the course of a few years while the symptoms of her Alzheimer’s disease were becoming more apparent.

She took care of a plastic doll as if it were her child, changing its clothes every day. She talked a lot of her past—about people I had never known but had been of great importance to her. Family life and surviving with little money were central concerns in her life. She was very inventive when it came to finding food, clothes and furniture.
